Earth Hour 2008 Takes Us To China and Brazil

Image
What an enriching experience Earth Hour 2008 was. We knew well before Saturday evening what we'd be doing during the momentous hour of darkness. With 5 kids in tow, darkness on the horizon and 60 minutes of quality time on our hands, we couldn't leave the planning of this event up to circumstance, so we decided we'd spend the hour traveling the world. We have already seen so much of the world thanks to the DVD collection of our local library. This Saturday we spent learning about the lives of 2 families in China . It was really interesting for us to learn how different the daily experiences of 2 families living in the same country could be. Our kids got the chance to see how other children in China prepare for school, and other daily tasks and chores. Having the opportunity experience life through the eyes of others always renews our appreciation for how blessed we are. It also reignites our burning desire to travel to these distant lands, and experience these wonderful

Xobni Rocks! Invites Available at Lisa C Writes

For years, we have been die hard Gmail users. We had long turned our backs on Outlook and its little brother Outlook Express. Until recently when I had to begin using Outlook to collaborate with other people in the company through Exchange. We discovered that we could IMAP our multitude of Gmail accounts and have them all synchronized on our respective computers. That was absolutely awesome, and made using Outlook lots more fun and useful. In fact we've seldom been back to Gmail since. Just when we were getting nice and comfy with our new Outlook setup we came across this incredibly sexy application called Xobni (that's Inbox backwards). After watching the video which we've shared with you below, we knew we had to have it. Xobni is free while still in Beta, and from what I hear should remain that way for personal use when it is launched. Bill Gates has referred to Xobni as "the next generation of social networking". Because of it's incredible

Coming Soon - Memory Lane Monday's

Image
The other day while cruising through my reader, I came across and interesting article about this Rollei Retro Mini Digital Camera. It made me pause for a moment and reflect upon where I found my love for photography. My grandfather was a photographer by trade. And this Rollei Retro reminded me of the camera I often saw him with. My mother would tell me stories of how he would tire the family of posing for portrait after portrait, and the nuisance of always having a camera in her face. I chuckle now to think how my children will probably one day tell a similar story of their father. I went to open up an old photo album to see if I could find any pictures of Granddad's old camera, but to no avail. What I did find while reminiscing through old photos was an exciting new project for LisaCWrites - Memory Lane Monday's. Each Monday we'll post a new photo and invite you to join our stroll down memory lane. These photos tell the beginning an interesting story. The pic

When Things Dont Go....

Your way? What do you do? Do you catch a fit? Start pulling your hair out? Put a pillow over your face and scream. I've been guilty of all of the above. What the hellavet is going on here. I thought I was grown. I thought I was responsible with my emotions. Not! Confession: I do not act all grown up, all the time. It's like when the kids are pulling at me all at once. The baby's crying, my three year old is walking around being bossy, my 3rd is acting like she's about to die because she has a little hang nail, my 2nd is acting like he doesn't understand a word I'm saying and my oldest is acting like she wants to take my place. You know what I do, start crying. That's right! And then something wonderful happens, they stop. Stop being so demanding, helpless, ungrateful, and they stop acting like they are the only human beings on the face of the earth. "Mommy are you ok? Mommy can I get you anything? C'mon guys let's give Mommy some time alone, she

We're very proud that Mayor Shirley Franklin and the City of Atlanta will be participating in Earth Hour 2008. Earth Hour was a movement that begun last year in Sydney Australia where every participant simply shut off their lights for one hour. In an effort to take responsibility for our own planetary fate - local government, corporations, and over 2 million individuals took a simple yet bold idea that resulted in the reduction of 25 million tons of carbon emissions. The effects of the Sydney experiment were so powerful, that the movement has become global. And today over 24 major cities around the world are participating in the one hour event. In addition, thousands of businesses and corporations will participate, as well as 10's of millions of people all across the world. Take a look at this short video to find out more about Earth Hour 2008. We encourage you to join us as we do our part to make our planet a better place for our children. Sign up For Earth H

Thursday's Thought of the Day...#21

I just love getting tips for life from Dumb Little Man. One in particular was a post title, 3 Simple Ideas to Improve the Quality of Your Relationship : Relationships, especially intimate ones, require work, dedication and patience. Great relationships just don’t happen – they happen because both people are willing to commit time and energy to it. Although building and maintaining a mutually gratifying relationship does require effort, the ideas and concepts are simple ones. In fact, the following three ideas provide a proven roadmap for relationship success: 1. Keep the relationship a priority 2. Learn to embrace differences 3. Focus on what you love and appreciate in your partner Keep the relationship a priority In the beginning, you and your partner were strangers to one another. After meeting and agreeing to a handful of dates, passion and curiosity soon developed. Think back to the time early in the relationship. There were probably frequent and romantic dates; long t

The American Red Cross Rescues Atlanta!

Image
Friday night was a disaster for many living in the Metro Atlanta area. The American Red Cross has been providing food, shelter, clothing and other emergency assistance to families and individuals who were affected by the tornado. So far 96 have been housed at shelters, 137 have been provided overnight hotel stays, 525 meals served, 800 snacks served, 90 people have received mental health counseling, and 50 people have received health services. Read more on the progress they've made, here . If you want to help, the best way is to make a financial donation to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund . Let's help rebuild lives in Atlanta!

Possible F2 Tornado Hits Downtown Atlanta!

Image
Something incredibly unusual has happened in The City Of Atlanta. This morning we are waking up to find incredible damage to numerous structures throughout the city. It's not often you hear (in fact, I've really never heard) of a tornado ripping through a metropolitan city with as many tall buildings as are in the downtown area. These pictures only show a glimpse of the damage. Severe damage has been reported as several landmark structures including: The Georgia Dome, CNN Center, Omni Hotel, Westin Hotel, Georgia Convention Center, Centennial Olympic Park, The Equitable Building, The Suntrust Tower, and many, many others. Severe damage is being reported in many communities including the historic Cabbage Town neighborhood around the downtown area. Amazingly, no deaths have been reported as a result of this incredible tragedy, and the reports of injuries are minimal considering the damage.

Embattled Detroit Mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick in a State Of The City address (they actually do that?) complained to the audience of hundreds about the use of racial slurs and threats that he has been subjected to. In front of a Live T.V. and Radio audience he makes these remarks: "In the past 30 days, I've been called a nigger more than anytime in my entire life," said Kilpatrick , 37. "In the past three days, I've received more death threats than I have in my entire administration." What's fascinating about this is that Mayor Kilpatrick is the same man who just a few months ago was at the head of a movement to "bury the -N- word". In fact he and other black leaders in the community conducted a mock funeral last summer to symbolize the obliteration of the term. Kwame is a man who has disgraced his family, disrespected his children, desecrated his marriage union, deceived his constituents, disappointed his city, dishonored his mothers

Lisa C is "Free To Fly"

I've been awarded by the lovely Regina , with the Free To Fly Award ! This is a new award, created by a beautiful blogger who was inspired to create it because she said, she "wanted to be able to make an award that I could share with some of those blogs that consistently make me laugh, make me think, and inspire me to grow and to reach." This was only the beginning to her warm and thoughtful post. Please stop by Free To Fly and read her post . It's kinda long but worth it! Regina gave it to me with those thoughts in mind and now I'm going to do the same. This award goes to all of the new ladies who came over this week from 5 Minutes For Mom in celebration of the Ultimate Blog Party. I'm hoping this will be the beginning to some good friendships. Good Girl vs. Bad Girl - Which One Are You?

Image
Awaken your hibernating vixen? Become that fearless bed-devil? Push your own boundaries, break the rules and get what you want? Have you ever wondered what experiences are most memorable to men? The ones that keep them coming back for more and more and, yes, MORE. Cosmo thinks they have the answers in this months issue in an article titled, Bad-Girl Sex Tricks. The author of the article says that "all men secretly crave boundary-pushing action in bed, so whip out these moves to wow him like crazy". After reading this article I have to say that I agree. I saw myself in both. It's about having fun, trying new things and coming out of your comfort zone in bed. As a matter of fact, this past Thursday D. and I had a date night and you best believe I put on my "bad girl" (I'm not telling which ones ;) I'll just say that we didn't come home until after three in the morning so we had enough time to explore some new and exciting things that left us both

It Ain't Over! Next Stop Wyoming! With Barack Obama!

Image
We've got our work cut out for us! Now it's your turn, Wyoming on Saturday and Mississippi on Tuesday! I sat staring at the t.v last night, watching as the numbers came in and wondered to myself, is there anything more I can do? What can I do that will make a difference? I want to feel that my voice, my little voice will be heard in a crowd of millions. That what I think, feel and say matters. Don't You? I look at this picture and ask myself, is he pointing at me? Is he giving me a charge? And, what if he was. Is he depending on me to do what I can, all that I can, for me. Because who ever wins, I will have to live with it. We will have to live with it like we've had to for the past 8 years. OUCH! When you say you want change, how bad do you really want it? Ask yourself, what can I do right now that will make it happen? Here's a start: Stay informed. Get connected. Be responsible, for your outcome. Give, Give, Give abundantly! And remember these word

Oh No, Not Another One!

My kids (especially the two little ones) are in LOVE with the Backyardigans . They can't seem to get enough. Little Joshy would bring us the remote and pull us into the den to turn it on for him, he's only 15 months! Of course we know what he wants, Backyardigans On Demand. For those of you who have Comcast you know what I'm talking about. The funny thing is, I find myself humming the words to the songs everyday all day long. I can't get it out of my head. Even D. has the Backyardagin fever...LOL. Truthfully I can't complain. I really think it's a neat show for the kids, it's different. There are 5 characters, Pablo, Tyrone, Uniqua, Austin, and Tasha who are all best friends. Yes, I know...those are very interesting names for characters on a children's show, I love it. They go on adventures in their backyard through imagination. Tell me about it, teaching our kids how to think "up" fun. The best part about the show, in my opinion, is the sing
