Mother's Day Goodies + A List of What I Know For Sure

Image
~ A basket full of goodies which held a few of my favorite, favorite things. ~ Cards created by two of the baddest stick drawing little people I know. ~ Time reflecting on what I mean to my family.  ~ Knowing that celebrating me is not just a one day affair.  ~ Appreciating that the word Mother is a verb. ~ To some, I'm no longer Mommy, I'm Mom. Not sure how I feel about that but for now, it's fine. ~ Seeing the fruit from planting all those mama seeds. ~ Grateful that they chose me ~ The joy that's in my heart from knowing that they know...they are enough. Her. And, this face. xx Can't wait to wear this Caftan on the beach. Love the color.  Icing sure knows how to top the cake.

The 26th Affair on My Birthday

Image
W e had so much fun on my birthday. My family made sure I knew how much they appreciated having me in their lives. As our family tradition we don't celebrate with much gift giving. My younger children love making me cards and creative crafts. All of our children understand that it's not about what they give materialistically but how they make each other feel as someone they say they love, value, respect, and cherish. This is more important to us than what our money can buy. It's one of the values we promised to instill in our children when David and I got married.  By the time we got to dinner we were all on cloud nine. They greeted us at the restaurant with open arms. David had already arranged our dining experience with the manager who anticipated our arrival. The whole evening felt like a red carpet affair.  David snapped these shots of our kids while they were in the moment. It was a night we'll always remember.  The 26th Affair ...

Atlanta Carnival 2012 Pt. 3

Image
Fun times are the best times. Life is meant to be enjoyed, fully! Enjoy your life in anyway you can and desire to do so, you will not regret it! Round 3 of our Atlanta Carnival 2012 celebrations landed us in a familiar place, The Royal Peacock Club located in Sweet Auburn Avenue in Atlanta. The Royal Peacock Club has been around for many, many years and is now enjoyed by the very much young at heart who listen to Rap, Reggae, and Soca. Saturday night we put on our dancing shoes and headed to Peacock. It was Carnival Reload, the night after the parade. This night was all about winding down for some or keeping up the pace from the parade, whatever your flow needed to be you had space to do that. We got there a little before midnight which meant we were getting in free tonight and we ate on the way to maximize on our time. One of the things I love about Peacock is the short lines. We never stand in line longer than a few minutes and then it’s up the infamous red stairs we go. At ...

Atlanta Carnival 2012 Pt.2

Friday night was all about Jouvert (pronounced Joo-vay), which means the party before Carnival! There where so many parties going on but we decided to spend the night at the Museum Bar because that’s where DJ Stephen was going to be. DJ Stephen is one of the hottest Soca DJ’s there is who really knows how to get the crowd going and throw a slamming party. The Museum Bar has two floors to it – one, the upstairs area with dining seating a large bar area with a huge flat screen on the wall that can be seen from anywhere in the bar. It has also has a balcony with tables and chairs that overlooks the wide open area downstairs and has a beautiful view of part of the city. The patio provides a nice alternative to dine when the weather is nice. It’s nicely decorated with white and black furniture and has a banquet hall kind of feel. It’s a great place to throw private parties of any kind and has another section for dancing and late night fun. Side two, the downstairs area is where the cl...

Atlanta Carnival 2012 Pt.1

It’s Carnival time in Atlanta again and the parties have begun! Last night Hubby and I started off our weekend with dancing and palancin at Esso Night Club in Atlanta. It was Flag Party time so that means bring the flag of whatever country you want to represent and let the music take you there. I was deeply impressed with the vicinity. It’s nicely decorated, large, has multiple areas either to dance, lounge, and or catch your breath. It surpassed my expectations and we enjoyed our time thoroughly. Anytime we go out we enjoy ourselves, but being in a new environment and not knowing what to expect and experiencing what we did was great! We got to Esso around midnight - a lot later than we had initially planned. The parking lot was full and one of the lines were insanely long so we opted to go in to the other, more shorter line, which costs $40 a ticket. It is Carnival time baby and you have to be prepared for prices to at least be doubled in some locations, this was one of them. We ...

Just A Sweet Hello...

And A Toast! My move is finally over and things went really well, I’m so happy about that. Sure, I have a little bruise here and there and yes, my body is aching…all over but I’m glad that part is over. Looking forward to making my first spa appointment very, very soon. My nails are in need of a mani as well. These things are to be expected but what was not to be expected is this beautiful weather Georgia has been having lately and how it has helped in our December move. So thankful for that! I’m also thankful for the help that I had through this move from a few of my lady friends, you know you who are. Even though your help has not been physical yet (*wink *wink), your emotional support has gotten me through. There is something special about being able to pick up the phone or email your girl and give her an earful about what’s going on with YOU and how she says just the words you needed to hear. Relationships like these take time to develop and it’s not always e...

I’m So Loved

I had a fantabulous time celebrating my special day! My husband woke me up yesterday morning and said pack your girlie bag your not coming home tonight and leave the rest up to me. Well alrighty then! I got up and did just what he said and the rest of my day was completely out of my hands and into his. It was a wonderful feeling to have experienced early in the morning, just as wonderful as that beautiful view from our hotel room balcony . It felt like we were on top of the world!! My children put together a beautiful, creative, outstanding video for me. They are so talented! They sang, danced, and acted in a video they created all by themselves. I was so surprised and proud at their effort that I could not stop smiling. I was almost in tears watching my babies on the screen showing their appreciation and care for me, it was priceless! It’s been a long weekend and I’m so tired. Which is why I’m about to do something I haven’t done in ages…go to bed before 12AM. I have to be...

Blame It On the Heat

Image
Nowadays you can find me in flip flops, tanks, sundresses, mini's (love the mini's), shorts, can't forget the sunglasses, oh and a cool drink to top it off!!! It is crazy HOTTT in Atlanta but I don't mind the heat because I always get this nice bronze color during the summer. I was just sharing that with Hubby the other day, and I like it. Looks pretty good on me. When the summer roles around so does the crazy, ridiculous clothing, doesn't it?? The other day we were limin' in a dance club and couldn't believe our eyes. Right in front of us a girl, steady dancing, wearing a top so small it barely covered her upper body. I mean the top was just wayyyyy too small for her and to make matters worse she kept pulling it down, further drawing attention to herself. I just don't get it. I'm all for women expressing their beauty and body in whatever way(s) they choose, I just draw the line at some places and it would do them good if they did too. Certain clothi...

I’m Glad I Did It!

After it was all said and done, I completed the Virginia-Highland Summerfest Road Race 5K sprinting across the finish line…well, more like jogging but hey, I made it!!! View Full Album Everyone had a great time and was so proud of themselves for finishing the race in whatever way they did. Some of us ran, jogged, walked and even did some wogging (lol), whatever way they found fit to reach their goal it was done. I really didn’t know what to expect when I first got down there. Race participants were everywhere and so was my head :-) My heart was racing, my palms were sweaty but I knew I was in good hands so I relaxed and fell into the groove of things. The Blog Rollers were waiting for everyone to arrive and when I did I saw Christie (my inspiration that I needed to push me over the edge and do this) I was cool. I got my name tag that had everyone’s twitter handle on it so we could all stay in touch during and after the race. Twitter is another story for me because I haven’t been ...
