Lifehacker Saved My Laptop!

Image
I'm a regular reader of popular tech blog Lifehacker . I owe them thanks to over 30% of the really cool (free) applications now housed on our various computers. But today, my greatest debt is owed to this little trick I learned over a year ago on Lifehacker - dry out soaked electronics in uncooked rice . Words can't describe the hysteria that ensued shortly after Gabby accidentally spilled a cup of water onto my laptop Sunday evening. We were sitting around the table looking at the pictures I took of Grandpa's ordination service when Gabby spotted something funny. She reached up to point it out to the others, and before you know it there was a nearly full cup of water covering the table, baptizing my laptop. Ok so truthfully, panic and hysteria are not my thing, but I can't begin to tell you how dearly I would have missed my Dell. There is so much on this machine that would be near impossible to replace, not to mention the incredible inconvenience of having to

~Man of the Hour ~ My Dad!

Sunday was a special day for my dad. It was the day of his ordination ceremony . He’s been waiting for this day for a very long time and finally it came. The tailor made sure that he was decked out from head to toe for his big day and believe me he was definitely strutting his stuff *smiling* He lives in Georgia so if any of you need a minister for any service, or know of someone who does, he's the man for the job. Just give me a holla and I will let him know. ~ Enjoy ~ ~Previous Men of the Hour post!

What I Love About Woogi World

Image
If you have young children, you probably already know how difficult it is to find age appropriate websites that you can allow them to visit regularly. Many of the "kiddie" sites out there are nothing more than a big advertising ploy for kids T.V. shows and/or products. My recent visits to Woogi World were quite a different experience. Woogi World is geared toward elementary school children, so Dave Dave and Gabby have gotten to spend a lot of time there. Of course TT is never far behind, and I was impressed with how quickly our 4 year old was able to get involved an maneuver her way around the community. Whats great about Woogi World is not just that it is full of really cool and exciting games, but the theme around the community is all about learning safety on the internet, service (to others and your community), good nutrition, and responsibility. Really, I could just stop my review right there! That's a lot more than kids get from the T.V., and often times much

Review Week at Lisa C Writes

Image
As many of you may know, I have been up to my ears in moving, and school; not to mention the daily routines or raising and teaching 5 children. Unfortunately, that has caused me to get backed up on some very important commitments for my blog. So along with finishing my first course, and starting my second (Psychology 202), this week is review catch up week for me. My lovely husband has agreed to help me complete all of the reviews that some very exciting and very gracious companies have asked me to write. In addition to my regular updates, I'll be completing reviews on some wonderful products. You may find exactly what you've been looking for here, including: Woogi World - a great online community for the kids Gloves In A Bottle - miracle lotion for the hands Frownies - beauty secret of the Hollywood elite PZI Jeans - damn I love how they fit! Lucky Me Tee - I've been flaunting my Mommy of 5 Gear Tripeptinon Facial Lift Capsules - a 6 week face lift in a capsule S

I'm In Catch Up Mode Amongst Other Things...

My work load has been picking up in school so I’ve been taking care of business. I’m glad to see things back up and running with my blog. It’s funny though, sometimes with the unexpected comes a much needed break. I’m working on writing some reviews and giveaways, a list that has been pushed backed far enough now. I guess it’s time to let you in on a little sumin’ sumin’ I’ve been working on. No, this isn’t the project that I spoke about in my last post; I’ll let you know about that one. This is more personal. A few years ago I toyed around with it, I even made mention of it in a small post I did. It’s something that I started a couple of times but both times I chickened out and went back to the drawing board. So, what’s different this time you ask? Well I’m glad you asked. I’ve gotten so much love and support from family, friends and believe it or not from you, my bloggin’ buddies. And just to name a few of you lovely ladies, Renee who told me about the importance of moisture, Yo

She's Growing Up Right Before Our Eyes

Image
Sunday, September 14th was a very busy day for us. It was the day we celebrated the birth of our 4th child, Victoria. She turned 4 years old! She enjoyed herself thoroughly and so did her siblings as each of them presented her with their own handmade gifts they made for her. She was celebrated as the Princess she is. It was beautiful. I'd like to share with you a little bit about our beautiful princess. It's been 2½ years now since she's worn glasses. She was diagnosed with condition called Strab ismus which is a dysfunction of the direction and power of the muscle in the eye. When she was 1½ we started to notice her crossing her eyes and were amazed that she knew how to do that at her age. It took Grandma and all of her wisdom to point it out to us that she’s a bit young and shouldn’t know how to do that at her age. Immediately we made an appointment with the ophthalmologist to have her eyes looked at.

What is the "Perfect" Body Type? - Part 1

Image
D's Perspective: Being the husband of a beautiful woman who has gone through the metamorphosis of motherhood 1,2,3,4,5 times, I am acutely aware of the differences in what women and men think about "ideal" body types. I think a lot of what we buy in to from the U.S. media is brought on by a mental image of a teenage boy living in a man's body. The idea that the ideal woman is built like the teenage girl you had your first crush on is small minded. I think as men mature they begin to look at women differently, learning to appreciate every bump and curve - even the one's women would rather hide. As a husband, there has never been a question as to how sexy my wife was to me, and I have never had expectations of her that were out of some magazine or from some video. As men grow in maturity they learn to transpose the internal and the external, and the beauty of a woman that lies on the inside is more important to him than the beauty she strives for on the o

Today's Pleasures

Image
My hubby has taken the kids out today to give me some time to study, relax and do just me. You know something, Sheliza was right ! I have been encountering new memorable views through the window of my new dwelling and they’ve been liberating! Thanks lady, and everyone else for their kind words of love. I just finished shampooing my hair and now braiding it into two (it’s too hot to do anything else with it) and enjoying the sounds of, Jamelody. I love this one in particular, it’s called – Love Crazy. ~ Enjoy ~

HomeSchooling With Toddlers Tip #2

Image
To recap tip #1, start the day with your toddler(s) first! Give them attention before you start your lessons with you older children. Read to your toddler(s). Watch one of their favorite video’s together. Teach them how to clean up their rooms and put things where they need to be. Example, while picking up toys and putting them away this is a perfect opportunity to teach them how to count. And, you can sing the ABC song with them while getting them dressed. Your objective is to fill them up with as much attention as you can so that when it’s time to focus on your older ones they won’t (hopefully) interrupt you. Tip #2 – Participation! No matter how often you get good results with tip #1 there are going to be days when that approach is just not going to work. Toddlers will be toddlers and when they don’t feel like cooperating they won’t. So, what are you going to do? Go with the flow! Remember, one of the key words to Homeschooling is: Flexibility. Your toddler(s) will want to “do” scho
