I’m Coco for Coconut Oil!
So, I posted an update on Facebook and it said: “Who needs the spa when you have 5 giving children, a bowl of coconut oil and candles? I love coconut oil and all the wonderful things you can do with it!” This update caused a few of my friends to ask “what can you do with coconut oil?” I responded by telling them I would write a blog post about it and share some of the different ways I use it.
There a several different types of Coconut oil, Virgin, RBD (Refined, Bleached & Deodorized), Hydrogenated, & Fractioned. The one I use on our skin is Virgin because it leaves a slight coconut scent on your body. You don’t have to worry about smelling like a coconut around people and them wanting to eat you. (Although, you may like that…LOL).
Skin: Your skin loves Coconut Oil!
- Your skin absorbs coconut oil easily and doesn’t leave it feeling oily.
- I use coconut oil as a moisturizer. It’s an excellent moisturizer for your skin. Especially if you have dry skin issues like, eczema and psoriasis. Just rub a little in the creases of your skin where the problems tend to show up the most. Not to mention the beautiful glow your skin has after applying it.
- Coconut oil softens your skin the more and more you use it. It also helps to add suppleness to wrinkled skin. If you ask me it’s a great natural anti-aging moisturizer. If you like your skin to feel soft to the touch or if he does
, then this is what you need to use. It won’t take long for you to see results.
- Another great idea to maintain your soft skin would be to apply coconut oil before your bath or shower and when you come out just pat your skin dry, making sure to leave some oil on your body.
- If you want a tan (which many like to get in the summer) put a little coconut oil on before you go out and by the time you come back you’ll notice your skin is tanned. It’s safer than caustic tanning agents.
- Lips, lips, lips! I use coconut oil on my lips whenever they are dry or whenever I feel like it. Sometimes a little get’s inside my mouth which leads to a very pleasurable taste. Yummy!
- It also works wonders for cracked heels.
- For those of you who use eye makeup. It’s a good eye makeup remover!
- Lubrication anyone? Forget about using KY-Jelly or anything else for that matter, use good and safe coconut oil to rub your man down and enjoy the long lasting moisture it brings to your flow. You’ll love it and so will he!
- It’s great to use when you want to give your special someone a massage! They’ll love it!
- Mommy’s who breast feed (kudos to you!!!) and have sore nipples rub a little coconut oil on your nipples before and after you feed. It will speed up the healing process.
- Cuts, scraps and burns, coconut oil soothes your boo boo’s every time! It speeds up the healing process by repairing damaged tissue.
- Stressed? Just rub a little coconut oil on your temples, close your eyes for a moment and relax. Your skin will absorb the oil bringing you stress relief and offers a soothing aroma at the same time.
- While you mediate or pray or just simply get quiet and still rub coconut oil in the palm of your hands and inhale, the aroma will bring you peace.
- Burn it! Put some coconut oil in an oil burner and enjoyed the soothing aroma as it travels through your sanctuary ( your home).
Cooking: It’s one of the healthiest oils to cook with. Some consider it to be more healthy than Olive Oil.
- Put a little coconut oil in your favorite dishes! You’ll never go back to using other oils.
- It’s a “good fat” to absorb internally. It helps with digestion and other digestion related issues.
- It’s a stable oil which makes it good for cooking. It won’t go rancid and can last for up to two years on the shelf.
- I love to put a little coconut oil in my curry tofu which everyone loves!
Hair: Coconut oil is a very nutritious hair product. When I buy my oil I pour it in a plastic applicator bottle (one that you’d use to apply hair color) and that’s what I use to apply the oil in our hair. If the oil hardens (becomes solid again) just run the bottle under some warm running water to liquify.
- If you suffer from dry scalp or dandruff issues massage coconut oil on your scalp and your problem will disappear.
- I use it as a daily scalp moisturizer (or as often as we need it) to maintain healthy scalps.
- I use it on mine and my daughters locs to maintain moisture throughout our hair.
- My boys use it as well. Hubby likes not having to deal with flakes any longer. We tried so many different moisturizers but none has come close to what the coconut oil has been able to do. Sure you can get something that works but you’ll come out of pocket for it and more than likely it’s not healthy for you.
These are just a few ways me and my family use Coconut Oil. I’m sure there are tons more. If you use coconut oil please share in what ways. Coconut oil is just one of the many oils I use but I have to say it’s the one I use the most for a variety of things, as you can see. My other favorites are Lavender and Red Palm oil! I’ll have to share more on those soon.

*For the ladies who prefer waxing or shaving your Yoni, whether it be bikini, brazilian, lading strip or whatever else is your pleasure, rub a little coconut oil on afterwards for it’s soothing abilities to your skin!
