Happy Birthday Gabrielle!!
Yesterday was Gabrielle's Birthday Day. She woke up feeling like the princess she is, knowing that the whole day was going to be about her.
Good morning mommy with a big smile on her face. We hugged and laughed, she couldn't wait for this day. She said to me "mommy I'm catching up to David now", all I could do was laugh and say "yes baby you are". She had a smile on her face that was so big how could I tell her she wasn't.
We decorated the house the night before, so when she came downstairs her eyes lit up when she saw everything. We sang happy birthday to her then she opened her gifts. She took her time opening the gifts, she didn't want to ruin the pretty rapping paper. That's Gabby for you. She posed for the camera after opening all of her gifts, she's loves taking pictures. Her daddy being the photographer that he is, one day told me "she's got it"...got what I asked..."it", "it"...I said ok...she's got it. Maybe modeling for her in the future...who knows. I'm open, if she wants to be the one behind the camera like her daddy then we'll make it happen.
We usually don't plan big parties for our kids, at least not every year. We like to switch it up and do something different. Yesterday we went to our local community center. They were having a celebration for black history month. What a show. It was from 4-6 and the kids loved it. Towards the end they were saying they were hungry, but overall enjoyed themselves. The performance by 'Ritmo Blu' was awesome. They played all sorts of musical instruments from around the world. They included West African stick drumming, early American jazz, and modern day hip-hop performed in the style of STOMP. We danced and sang with them, it was wonderful. We are always looking for ways to expose our kids to different things culturally. The performance by Dr. Mary Vernon-Smiley who played Harriet Tubman was moving. She had us all believing she was the real thing.
At the end of the night Gabrielle said to me "mommy this was the best day ever on my birthday" . That's what it's all about.
Love you Gab Gab,
blogger mommy
